Parrot Tulips!

These beauties were calling my name as I climbed out of the subway this morning… the stall is in front of “Newstand” on the west side of the market… its best to get them in the morning because they go so fast! According to Michael Pollan in The Botany of Desire, these variety of “broken” tulips were highly sought by the Dutch for the randomness of their coloring. The colored streaks look painted, and no two are alike.
